About Camphor Essential Oil

Camphor (Cinnamomum camphora) – We’re pleased to offer this stimulating essential oil, steam-distilled from the wood of the Camphor tree. Camphor has a sharp, clean, and penetrating scent and is known for its strong clearing and cooling effects on both the body and mind. It is considered a top to middle note and is a great addition to respiratory and muscular blends.

Camphor is commonly used to clear the respiratory tract, ease pain, and support detoxification. It has a long-standing history in Ayurveda and Chinese medicine for reducing inflammation and stimulating circulation. It also acts as an insect repellent and antimicrobial agent, ideal for topical first-aid blends.

Main Chemical Compounds

• Camphor – Provides analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antispasmodic effects. Enhances blood flow and is often used in pain-relief salves.

• 1,8-Cineole – Supports respiratory health and acts as a decongestant and expectorant.

• Limonene – Uplifting, antioxidant and skin protective.

• Safrole (in trace amounts) – Antiseptic and insect-repelling qualities.

How do I use Camphor?

You can use it for congestion – just dilute it in carrier oil and then rub it on your chest and back for a vapor-rub effect. Much in the same way it will assist for aches and pains, sore joints and muscles. When you use it for skin irritations, dilute it even more and apply to itchy or inflamed skin. To assist with continual diffusion over a longer time period, such as at night, add 3 to 4 drops to the water chamber after you’ve added water. This will help keep the airways open all night long and in the morning you’ll even notice your mental fog might have lifted.

Cautions

Avoid in pregnancy. Not suitable for infants or young children. Use only in well-ventilated spaces. Do not use near broken skin or mucous membranes. Always dilute before topical use.
