Ingredients: 100% pure Wintergreen essential oil (Gaultheria fragrantissima)
Country of Origin: India
About the plant & extraction: Two species are used to produce the essential oil: Gaultheria procumbens (native to North America) and Gaultheria fragrantissima (native to Asia and India). The wintergreen plant is also known as the checkerberry or teaberry. They use the leaves of the wintergreen plant to distill the essential oils. They are firstly fermented and then followed by distillation to obtain a purer product.
Benefits:
Major Components: methyl salicylates – the methyl ester of salicylic acid. This component is responsible for assisting the body with pain. Methyl Salicylates acts by stimulating the superficial afferent nerves from the same spinal segment that supplies the underlying painful muscles. The stimulation of these nerves causes vasodilation in that spinal segment and that reduces the cause of pain in the deeper muscles.
Benefits: Because it is such a potent analgesic (pain relief), use it for possible relief of minor aches and pains caused by strains, sprains, arthritis, bruising, nerve pain, simple backache, or pain in the lower spine. Wintergreen is also beneficial to help with cold and flu relief. It is anti-bacterial, anti-viral and can even help with digestive relief. It is known to assist with increased energy while reducing fatigue. Anti-septic.
Usage:
How to use: Always use diluted in a carrier oil. Add one drop to a diffuser. Use in a carrier oil along with a blend of other oils for pain relief as a massage oil.
Caution: Less is more. Be careful to keep Wintergreen away from your eyes, the mucus membranes inside of your nose and throat. Don’t use it directly or undiluted on the skin. Take care not to not use it on pets and babies since they are just too sensitive. Don’t use on open wounds undiluted. Do not use internally. Consult your doctor if you’re on digestive or asthma medications, blood thinners, pain medication or anticoagulants.
