About Lavender essential oil
Firstly, Lavender oil is known to be a strong anti-microbial oil. When used in aromatherapy, this mild sedative helps to reduce stress by relaxing the brain waves, which is also said to reduce cortisol levels that contribute to the stress hormone.
Lavender is, secondly, known to help especially to calm the nervous system, this brings the brain to optimal levels for better sleep. It can be a great help to relieve exhaustion. It is also known to be an effective relief for insomnia. This is the reason we used it in our Calm Blend and also in our Baby-zzz massage blend.
Furthermore, it helps to relieve pain – this strong analgesic is effective for headaches, migraines, sprains, rheumatic pain and muscle pain alike. Lavender oil is beneficial to the respiratory system and can assist in dealing with issues such as bronchitis, asthma, laryngitis and other throat infections. It can even be an aid in relieving tuberculosis. The anti-viral properties helps keep infections down.
Lavender oil might help increase gastric secretion thus being of help with nausea, vomiting, colic and flatulence. Wanda Steller, in her book “The directory of Essential oils” notes that it is known to stimulate bile production which helps digestion of fats. Apart from that is is also renowned as an insecticide to keep moths and insects away.
Lastly, Lavender is a great oil to use as a fever-buster! When you diffuse Lavender and Lime in the room where you have the feverish child, it might just assist in breaking the fever. Add a few drops to the cold water that you dip the cloth in to sponge off your little one.
Main Chemical Compounds
The main chemical compound found in Lavender is linalool at about 36%, linalyl acetate at about 30%, 1,8-cineole, β-ocimene, terpinen-4-ol, and camphor. These compounds are responsible for making this oil such a strong anti-microbial oil. Linalool is responsible for Lavender being such a high anti-fungal and anti-microbial essential oil. Linalyl acetate is a potent component responsible for the essential oil being a great anti-hypertensive, anti-diabetic, neuro-protective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. 1,8-cineole is known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anticancer activities. β-ocimene has uplifting effects, is an anti-convulsant, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties. Terpinen-4-ol is a strong antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. Champhor is the one we can thank for these properties: anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-pruritic (used to relieve itching), antiseptic and being an expectorant.
How do I use Lavender
When using internally, you can add 1 drop to a capsule, fill it with Fractionated Coconut Oil and swallow with water after a light meal. Can be baked into cakes and added to smoothies. We have a lovely Lavender Spritzer recipe that will guide you to use it in a drink. Refer to our responsible usage guide to see how to use essential oils responsibly internally.
When you use this oil topically for something like muscle pain, always dilute it in a carrier oil such as Sweet Almond. To ease indigestion, make a blend for tummy help in Avocado oil in a roller bottle. Moreover, you can diffuse it in your aroma diffuser as is, if you love the smell.
Use as a natural help when little children have a fever. Just ad 3 crops to the cold water you use to wet the facecloth for their foreheads. The anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties is said to help kill off any bacteria and viruses that are responsible for the fever. This way you can, along with other treatment options, help keep the fever in control.
