Cypress (Cupressus Sempervirens) – we source this one from a reliable producer in Morocco. This oil can be substituted with Cedarwood and vica versa. It has a clean, earthy, wood-like, spicy and masculine fragrance much the same as Frankincense. Cypress essential oil is a warm oil and also a middle note. About Cypress
Cypress is firstly, known to be a decongestant. It helps to eliminate respiratory conditions. Cypress oil can also be used as a cough suppressant since it helps to loosen and clear congestion due to a cold or flu. It’s anti-spasmodic properties also helps calm coughing bouts.
A second set of benefits is to the skin, abrasions, wounds and even acne. Cypress essential oil in a facial serum, can do wonders for truly oily skin. At the same time, because of the potent anti-microbial activity, it is usually recommended for treating acne. Cypress oil is a strong astringent – causing skin to draw tighter. This along with powerful anti-bacterial activity, is a wonderful wound and abrasion healer. Warts, which might be caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) can also receive help with this essential oil. Since it’s also an anti-viral, it may help control warts caused by herpes. A 2009 paper found that cypress oils were effective against the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1).
Some final benefits include help for arthritis, swelling, broken capillaries, hemorrhoids, menstrual cramps and poor circulation. Being a great anti-septic, this oil works wonders as a natural deodorant since it’s especially good at fighting odor. It has sedative effects, and it induces a calm and relaxed feeling when used aromatically or topically. It lifts the spirits and stimulates happiness and energy.
Lastly, and most interestingly, Cypress essential oil has anti-biofilm properties, and therefore, can be used as natural preservative ingredients in food and/or pharmaceuticals.
Main Chemical Compounds
The main chemical compound found in Cypress was α-pinene (48.6%), δ-3-carene (22.1%), limonene (4.6%) and α-terpinolene (4.5%) were the main components comprising 79.8% of the oil. δ-3-carene is responsible for anti-inflammatory properties, assisting with diseases such as arthritis and fibromyalgia. α-pinene is responsible for Cypress’ anti-microbial activity.
How do I use Cypress

For wound cleaning use this oil mixed in a carrier oil such as Sweet Almond or Castor oil. Moreover, you can diffuse Cypress in your aroma diffuser as is if you love the smell.

Cautions for Cypress essential oil
Keep away from the eyes. Keep out of reach of children. Store in glass, in a cool dry place away from sunlight to preserve longer. Do not use during pregnancy!
