Massage oils play a crucial role in enhancing the benefits of massages, contributing to both physical and mental well-being. We can list a few reasons that massages are good for couples too but we’ll leave that to common sense. Here’s a brief exploration of why massages are good for the body and how you can make your own massage oil at home.
Why Massages Are Beneficial:
1. Stress Relieve: Massages help reduce stress by promoting relaxation and lowering levels of the stress hormone – cortisol. High cortisol levels are basically part of our everyday lives. Many of us don’t get enough physical movement into our days to counter the effect it has on our bodies either. Needless to say, lowering this with massage will help quite a bit.
2. Improves Circulation: Massage increases blood flow, aiding in better circulation and the delivery of nutrients throughout the body. Nothing feels better than good circulation, right!
3. Alleviates Muscle Tension: The kneading and manipulation of muscles during a massage can relieve muscle tension and soreness. This relief you feel after a good, deep massage will not only help you move easier, it will also make your emotions settle and your mind think a bit clearer.
4. Brings a sense of nurture: Should you be so lucky to have a partner that can do (and receive) the massages, you will find that the time together is quality time that will leave both of you feeling nurtured and cared for. This does wonders for relationships!
Making your own massage oils at home:
Creating your massage oil at home is a very simple and customizable process. At OilGrow we can help you make it as easy as possible. We have a wonderful range of essential oil blends that are all created with a purpose in mind. These blends are made with 100% pure essential oils for various applications. Here is a shortlist of what each of the OilGrow Blends are for.
You can use the blends in a diffuser, on diffuser jewelry, add it to unscented cream, Epsom salt or even milk for a luxurious bath. One obvious use for these blends is to add them to one of our pure carrier oils. Just pick the right carrier oil for you alongside our favourite OilGrow blend.
Here’s a basic recipe:
Ingredients:
- 50ml Carrier Oil
- 10 drops pure essential oil or essential oil blend
Instructions:
Add the desired amount of drops directly to the 50ml carrier oil bottle. Start at 10 drops and increase with 5 more drops incrementally if the fragrance isn’t strong enough after the first add. Do this until you have the desired strength. Remember that less is more when it comes to essential oils, so don’t go overboard to regret it later.
Now shake the bottle well but gently. Use as needed for massages.
A bit about the carrier oils used in massage oils
Here is a bit about a few different carrier oils that are popularly used as massage oils. This might help you decide which one you might want to pick as your personal choice for your own massage oil. We don’t recommend using an oil such as Castor Oil for massage purposes due to its viscosity.
1. Fractionated Coconut Oil: Known for its moisturizing properties, coconut oil promotes smooth skin texture and helps prevent inflammation. It is a popular choice for massage oils due to its light and non-greasy nature.
2. Sweet Almond Oil: Almond oil is rich in vitamin E and works wonders for nourishing the skin. Its mild scent makes it a favourite for aromatherapy massages, providing relaxation and stress relief. Also a very light and fluid oil that has a long lasting stay on the skin.
3. Grapeseed Oil: Lightweight and odourless, grapeseed oil is perfect for sensitive skin. It is often used in aromatherapy and helps tighten the skin. It has a lovely texture and makes massages easy.
Incorporating massage oils into your massage routine can elevate the experience, providing not only physical relaxation but also nourishing benefits for your skin. Make your own combination with your favourite pure essential oils or essential oil blends.
